Appendix B for “ The Evolution of Strategic Sophistication ” ( Intended for Online Publication ) Nikolaus Robalino and Arthur Robson

چکیده
This appendix contains the proof of Theorem 2 which is the main result for the general version of the model presented in Section II of the paper. The numbering here (of equations, result, and definitions, etc.) follows the numbering in the published paper. Assumptions 6-10, which are stated in the paper, are assumed implicitly throughout. A single subscript will be used to denote the number of accumulated iterations of the game (as in the proof of Theorem 1 in Appendix A). For example, instead of writing Hn,t for the period n, iteration t history, Hs will be used, where s is the total number of iterations of the game along the history. The notation s(n) denotes ∑ m<n κ(m) + 1. Notice, in particular, that for each period n = 1, 2, . . . , iteration s = s(n) corresponds to the arrival of the n-th novel outcome.

The Evolution of Strategic Sophistication
Abstract. This paper investigates the evolutionary foundation for our ability to attribute preferences to others, an ability that is central to conventional game theory. We argue here that learning others’ preferences allows individuals to efficiently modify their behavior in strategic environments with a persistent element of novelty. Agents with the ability to learn have a sharp, unambiguous ...
متن کاملThe Evolution of “Theory of Mind”
This paper provides an evolutionary foundation for our capacity to attribute mental states such as belief, desire, and intent to ourselves, and to others. This ability, referred to as “Theory of Mind”, is intrinsic to game theory and is viewed by many as the capstone of social cognition. We argue here that theory of mind allows organisms to efficiently modify their behavior in strategic environ...
متن کاملApplying "theory of mind": Theory and experiments
This paper investigates our capacity to attribute preferences to others. This ability is intrinsic to game theory, and is a central component of “Theory of Mind”, perhaps the capstone of social cognition. In particular, this component of theory of mind allows individuals to learn more rapidly in strategic environments with an element of novelty. We show here that the capacity to attribute prefe...
متن کاملThe economic approach to 'theory of mind'.
Theory of mind (ToM) is a great evolutionary achievement. It is a special intelligence that can assess not only one's own desires and beliefs, but also those of others. Whether it is uniquely human or not is controversial, but it is clear that humans are, at least, significantly better at ToM than any other animal. Economists and game theorists have developed sophisticated and powerful models o...
متن کاملDoes the Appendix Location Change During Pregnancy?
Background: Early diagnosis of appendicitis is important during pregnancy. Unlike omentom, cecum and appendix are not likely to be displaced by the growing uterus, so the concept of position change of the appendix during pregnancy is questionable. Objective: To determine the anatomical location of appendix during pregnancy. Methods: In a prospective study from October 1995 to March 1999, 291 w...
